I Finally Finished It!

If you had noticed the "What I'm Reading Now" section in the sidebar and thought to yourself, "Gee...guess she's forgotten to change the book" or "Maybe she's too busy to read to read right now", you'd be WRONG. You'd also have to be a book-lover yourself to even care.

The truth is that it's taken me FOREVER to finish reading Atlas Shrugged. I've been slogging through that book since June 26th. Five whole weeks and I normally finish a book within days. Arghhhh! And I finally finished it last night. All 1,200 pages of it.

Hubby says I'm a geek and he's probably right. He's been annoyed that I've sat on the couch for at least an hour nearly every night with my nose in that fat thing. What does he have to complain about? He bought me the book for my birthday, for goodness sake.

Who reads stuff like that when they don't HAVE to? Idiots like me, I guess. The sad part is that I actually liked the book; it made me think. It brought back memories of the philosophy class that I took a few years ago (boy was that ever fun...every Wednesday night I'd walk into the classroom swearing to myself "I won't talk in class, I won't talk in class" and by the end of the night I'd be hoarse from debating...jeepers, I am a geek!).

Just between us, here's my guilty secret: I'd much rather read Nora Roberts. Or my baby sister's books (she's a fabulous writer, don't ya know?). I've put in my time with the serious stuff and now I'm ready to sit back and be entertained for a while. When I want to think again, John Adams is next on my "serious" book pile.

So what's on your book pile? Something weighty or a bit of light summer reading? Come on, 'fess up! I won't tell anyone.

  1. I've read John Admans and it was great, I'm glad I read the book first before seeing the DVD! I love to read too, also like Nora Roberts:)
    Have a good weekend.

  2. Rondell -

I wanted to get the John Adams book a couple of years when it first came out, but nobody got my 'hints' that I wanted it for Christmas or my birthday. So I hadn't read it yet when I watched the miniseries (LOVED the miniseries, by the way).

I'm afraid that having watched the miniseries will spoil the book for me a little, but I'm not going to let that stop me.

    So...are you reading anything now?

  4. I need to read the John Adams saga, sounds like my cup of tea. However, I am reading something that really is not my cup of tea, but I love it. The Twilight series. I'm on the sequel New Moon. Who would've ever guessed I would enjoy vampire books. But I do!!
