There is an old proverb that says, "Every end is a new beginning," and that is especially true in my life right now.
If you've been wondering where I've been for the past three weeks, I've been making preparations for closing my shop. And now I can finally share that news with all of you, which is a huge relief because it's no fun keeping a secret.
Why am I closing the shop? About a year ago, Hubby and I sat down and talked about how we'll soon be empty-nesters; Baby Boy is getting married in May, and Baby Girl is graduating from college that same month. It suddenly hit us that these changes come with an opportunity to do something really wild, really different, to have an adventure.
So we decided to move to the Northwestern part of the U.S.; either Washington State or Idaho. It's a long and complicated story about how we picked those areas, and I won't bore you with the details. Hubby has requested a transfer within his company and we're currently waiting for a position to open up for him. In the meantime, we're concentrating on winding the shop down and streamlining our possessions (and when you have as much STUFF as we do, it's a huge task all in itself).
Hubby and I visited Idaho and Washington last September, just to be sure that we picked areas where we could be happy. And who couldn't be happy seeing a view like this Boise area vista every day:
Or this view from the backyard of a home that we looked at in the Spokane area:
Right now we live a very suburban life in a subdivision outside of Charlotte, North Carolina. This move will be a huge change in lifestyle and culture for both of us, and we're awfully excited about it.
And now, to quickly answer a few questions that might come up.
Will you keep the website open? Absolutely.
Will you continue this blog? Without a doubt.
When will the shop be closing? Sometime between March 31st and April 30th.
Are you having a sale? Yes, but for now the only sales will be in-store only. The New Year's and Sweetheart sales were a warmup for this month's clearance sale. In addition to 50% off many items, anything else that's not on sale is 30% off. Once again, this is an in-store sale only and does not apply to online inventory.
Why aren't you having an online sale? Since I'll be keeping the website open, there's no need to liquidate that inventory at this time.
Will you be opening a new shop after you move? That's a tough one. I promised myself that I'd wait at least six months after we move to make that decision. And I'm sticking to it.
If you have any other questions for me, feel free to fire away. And if you have advice for idiots who have decided to pick up and move cross-country, I'm all ears!
