My name is Pam, and I am a Farm Town addict.
There, I’ve said it. It’s embarrassing to admit that a silly game on Facebook could take over your life.
Two weeks ago I decided to see why some of my Facebook friends had been gifting me with virtual apple trees and cows and zinnias. So I started up my own little farm in Farm Town, a few plowed fields on a 12x12 grid of land. I planted crops on those fields and harvested them. But six little fields only took seconds, and then I was bored.
So I gifted fruit trees, farm animals, and fruit to my farmer friends. I sought out the forum and read about the do’s and don’ts of the game. Wow, some people really take this stuff seriously!
I learned that if I wanted to plant more fields, I had to plow them first. My first fields were crooked and haphazard, a real mess. I learned about the bulldozer tool that acts as an eraser, or better yet, a Delete tool. I erased my messy fields and started over, learning how to plow in neat, tight rows.
Pretty! Soon I filled my farm with tight rows of growing crops. Harvested, plowed, and planted again. Repeat.
Then I learned about the social aspect of the game. If you harvest another farmer’s crops, you earn 20% of the take, and the farmer earns 20% more for his crops than he would if he’d harvested them himself. Sweet!
Now I have a 20x20 plot and have managed to add a barn. I’m looking forward to earning enough “coins” to buy a house next. After I’ve upgraded to the largest size plot, then I’ll be moving things around and starting to “decorate” my farm a little more.
Here’s how my little farm looks at this point. Pretty simple compared to some of the elaborate farms I’ve seen others do. When they have time to eat and sleep, I don’t know.
I’ve been having a blast playing this silly game, and Hubby’s been shaking his head at me. He just can’t understand why I’m enjoying it so much. And I keep telling him that he should be glad…I could be out spending money instead!
If you’re a Farm Town addict like me, feel free to leave a comment. You’ll feel better if you admit it!
