Decorating for Christmas

I love Christmas, don't get me wrong. It's the decorating that I have a problem with. You spend hours and hours and hours dragging out dozens of boxes and crates of gee-gaws, then sort through them to see which will "make the cut" this year.

The last two years I gave up and simply put every single ornament I owned on the tree. It was really kind of ironic that with such a mix of styles and eras, it actually worked.

This year I decided to be ruthless and decided that if it wasn't red, gold, white, or clear, it wasn't going on the tree. Period. So this is what I ended up with.

The daytime version:

And the nighttime version:

I know my prim friends must be disappointed, but Hubby refuses to let me go too rustic in my decorating, even at Christmas. Still, I snuck in pine cones wherever I could...

Here are some of the ornaments that made the cut. Some were picked because they were pretty:

Some were chosen for their texture:

Some for their simplicity:

And others for the memories:

Rather than an angel or a star at the top of our tree, I like a simple shimmery bow:

So far we only have one other Christmas "display"; it's in a wall niche. This is a handmade dulcimer than I bought in West Virginia years ago; it stays in the niche year-round:

Add a poinsettia with a Christmas pick:

And some vintage Christmas sheet music, plus a handpainted nutcracker-style box:

And it feels like Christmas!

If you haven't already, don't forget to throw your name in the hat for the prim snowman "tuck" that I'm giving away. There's still a week left to enter...just click on the photo at the top of my sidebar and it will take you to the original post where you can enter.

And if you'd like to add my giveaway to your sidebar, the HTML code is right beneath the picture on my sidebar for you to grab.

Hugs,
Pam
